Generative Fill has, in a matter of seconds and with zero creativity from the user, turned a portrait image into landscape, complete with a photo-realistic backgrounded created entirely by AI. Powered by Adobe Firefly, the Generative Fill function is fairly primitive for now, but in the right hands can already be used to make impressive changes to your photographs. All you have to do is select a portion of the image, type what you want Photoshop to do, and the AI will do the rest. It’s even possible to leave the prompt box blank, hit the Generate button and leave Photoshop to do whatever it likes. You might be more familiar with AI’s ability to write like a human with applications like ChatGPT.

This is in contrast to most other AI techniques where the AI model attempts to solve a problem which has a single answer (e.g. a classification or prediction problem). Additionally, the tool is impeccable when it comes to refining portraits. It’s not just about color correction or background changes; it’s also about enhancing the very essence of a portrait. From smoothing out minor skin imperfections to adjusting the drapery of clothing or even subtly altering facial expressions for the desired effect, Generative Fill has it covered. And for those images that call for a hint of style, adding accessories becomes a breeze. Think stylish sunglasses for that beach shot, a beard for a rugged look, or even jewelry to add a touch of sophistication.

Adobe Photoshop Generative Fill Examples
